Dr. Brookes runs an active research lab studying mitochondria and metabolism in the setting of cardiac ischemia-reperfusion injury (heart attack). In addition, he has been active in the area of scientific sleuthing for over 15 years, detecting and reporting on thousands of manipulated images in the bioscience literature. He is a proponent of open-science as a mechanism to reduce misconduct, using platforms such as BioRxiv and FigShare since their inception.
