Breakout B: The PI Program: Lessons learned from a program that remediates research compliance and integrity violations
Description

The Professionalism and Integrity in Research Program (PI Program) was established in 2013 to serve researchers with violations of research compliance or integrity. In 2020, it evolved from a 3-day small group workshop to a one-on-one coaching program. It has now served nearly 200 researchers from 78 institutions in the US. This presentation will describe the program and explore lessons learned. Specifically, we will examine the social expectations, environmental challenges, thought patterns, decision-making problems, and inadequate leadership and management habits that pose a threat to research compliance and integrity. We will also share how the PI Program addresses each of these risks to support research integrity.
